crack router config file

Hi everybody,
i apologize for being quite a newbie (but willing to learn!)
Well, my problem is a decryption (or also decompression?) problem.
It's all about the config file of a D-Link DI-524, firmware version V2.04 april 28 2006.

The file is called "config.bin".
First i've been trying to understand which type of file is the .BIN i'm dealing with:
i would bet it's an encrypted (maybe compressed too) .XML file ...but i didn't understand which algorithm locks it.

I'm not able to reverse engineer the firmware to discover the routines and algorithm the router uses to write/read the config file.
I found a couple of tools (around on the net), which decompress/decrypt some .bin files and they are useful for the specific router they are developed for (Zyxel, Linksys, Cisco...) but, as expected, they do not work on my D-Link config file.
I also checked out this app called DOCSIS

So, you want to Reset router or what? I don't understand why do u want to open that config file...

i had to come back to using the d-link router (which i haven't been using for long time)
i had all the settings (suitable to my ISP) there in the old config.bin fortunately, cuz i cant remeber them

but, in order to set it up and manege it, i DO need the account password (which is stored in it)...since i can't recall it, i have to retrieve it

HELP ME please!

I remember that there is a backup and restore option in router settings, if you can't access settings Reset the router by putting a Clips or pin to the reset hole on the back of the device, then go to settings and restore the old config file.

by restoring the old config, also the old (forgotten) pwd will be restored
without it, i'm stuck...can't manage anything!!!

so, once again, the problem is to retrieve pwd outta the config.bin (by decrypting its content)
anybody can help me do that ??? please...
