Nokia Firmware Editor Beta 0.4 – Cook your own firmware

After cooked ROM’s of Windows Mobile, we now have cooked firmwares of Nokia. The purpose of having this editor is to extract, edit and repack ROFS2 and UDA files as per inidividual preferences.

The whole procedure is quite simple :
1. Download and extract tool.
2. Open tool.
3. Click “Open” button and select rofs2 or uda file
4. Click “Extract” button
5. Files will be extracted to:
a. for rofs2 file “rofs2? folder
b. for uda file “fat16? folder
6. Edit your files (don’t close NokiaEditor):
a. for rofs2 open “rofs2? folder and edit files
b. for uda open “fat16.img” in “fat16? folder and edit it with magiciso or winimage
7. After you edited files click “Repack” button
8. Repacked files are in program folder:
a. REB-RM************.rofs2.*** for rofs2 file
b. REB-RM***********.uda.*** for uda file
9. Rename files (delete “REB-” at the beginning of file name) :
a. REB-RM************.rofs2.*** to RM************.rofs2.*** for rofs2 file
b. REB-RM***********.uda.*** to RM***********.uda.*** for uda file
10. Flash you phone with new files
11. DONE

Tips for editing ROFS2 and UDA files:

• If you want to add RP+ to your rofs2 file copy only “patcher.ldd” and “patcherShadow.ldd” to sys/bin folder. After flashing install RP+ LiteVersion.

• If you want to edit files that are in rofs1 image – copy them to rofs2 folder and edit they will be overwriten after flashing. (eg: swipolicy.ini )
  

• Example: if you want to edit file swipolicy.ini (that file is in rofs1) copy swipolicy.ini to rofs2 folder (system/data) and edit – Repack and flash.

!!!Remember that rofs2 file have maximum size (about 33mb) so if you don’t have space for your files,mods just delete other language files from rofs2 folder!!!


Tool tested with 5530, 5800 files!!! May work with n97 as well. Do let us know your results in that case to update our details.


ALL FILES THAT ARE ADDED/EDITED IN ROFS2 STAY AFTER HARD RESET

It's safe as long as you did it correctly. I've tested and cooked my Fw many times. We can cook our Rofs2 as what we want. E.g: Phone stay hacked after hard reset
Just to remember when cooking Rofs2 don't exceeds the maximum size (about 33 MB). Even though failed flashing, you can reflash using your original FW with JAF.

Tips:
- Download 1st time all your proper FW according to your Fw version (latest/newest), RM code & product code
- Save and backup them for restoring/reflashing next time when phone failed flashing.
- Don't download or flash using lower Fw version, or it will brick your phone.

Symbian now goes to open source. Let's cook and have fun with our cooking Fw

After doing many cookings specifically as i want, some of them make me satisfied and unsatisfied. But i still playing around with them. Latest mine almost same as your post here in another thread.

1,2,3,4,5,6 my CFW lists are same.
7) & 9) i removed patcher.ldd & patchershadow.ldd in z:/sys/bin, change to add 'SwitcerStore.dat' file by FreeSign certificate. Credit goes to Alex on his N97. So there is no RomPatcher there.
Some reasons:
-To gain Full 20-CAPS root certificate directly stored in ROM.
-To gain RP+ v.2.3 works fine in 'auto apply' even though patches after restart.
- Fix inabilty 'autou apply' issue of RP+ v.2.3 when using 'ldd'. So no need to use v.2.2
10) I don't need ovistore on the phone, as i rarely use it at this time. I prefer to browse & download in OviStore via notebook using some tricks.

Others, Of course..disable nokia pop up messaging after Hard reset, Disable background running applications at start up etc as yours. Just i didn't use modo.

It's great to gain more space. Just many people need a 2nd lang like me . I need eng, indonesia, arabic & sometime chinese. On my FW contains default langs of Eng, Indo, malay, and chinese. So i remove malay and replace it with arabic. Cook this lang almost explode my head

NokiaEditor Beta 0.5 PNHT [Update 02.11.2010]

Fixed some bugs:

- Added new tools for unpacking and repacking rofs images.
check New tools and then extract/repack, Please report if its working for you.

- Added possibility to open other files (not only rofs2 uda files)

- N86 users (and others) please open "*.language.*" file and then try to extract and repack and flash your phone

- N86 FW files have headers like 5530, 5800 FW files so you have to try flash your phone with modified FW.

If you have extracted files into rofs2 folder you don't have to click extract button, just click open file (select file that was previously extracted to rofs2 folder) and then repack.

PS. Fixed bug in Beta 0.5 now it will be ok

* Added support for N96 - somebody with N96 have to test !!
- open NokiaEditor - select Phone model and then open rofs2 file (*.language.*)

* Support for N86 added in 0.5 but nobody tested it..........................

Program tested on WIN XP SP3 !!!!
